restricting Visio templates (and stencils)

Hi all,

does anyone know if there is a simple way to restrict stencils and
templates in Visio 2003?

for example, on a client machine that has my solution installed, i
would like to provide access to the database diagramming
templates/stencils alone.

i don't believe that it's as straighforward as deleting these files.

(the Active-X drawing control unfortunately, is not an appropriate
approach for my solution)

many TIA

I haven't tried this, so you'll be the guinea pig...

You might be able to modify the Visio UI. Find the menus and toolbars that
give access to the templates and stencils. Remove those items. Build your
own customized versions of the items that you removed, but only list the
stencils/templates that you want.

Essentially, you're building new UI elements that look just like the default
ones, but have limited capabilities.

Not an easy answer, but I think you could get it to work.
