Resume template headache

I have used a resume template for sending out job applications which I
created using Word 2003.

I recently did the same as I have always done, but it mysteriously saved as
a 32MB template file! I have no idea why, but I seemed unable to save it as a
doc file. After trying many things, I somehow changed it - but it became a
docx file.

I won't pretend to have significant understanding of this, I merely use what
I know. Can anyone please explain what might have happened? I am still using
Word 2003 on XP.

I had a file that gained a lot of weight as well. Yes, it was chock full of
goodies but it grew to 65MB! I found some advice that said to save it as an
..html, close the file, open the .html file and save it as a Word doc again.
It worked. (Use a different Word doc name the second time just in case it
barfs. ;-) )
