Retain all data in form fields when re-opening "saved" doc

Greetings!

I have created a form template (.dot). It includes date and time form
fields that auto-update whenever I create a new form. There are the
usual text and calc fields, as well.

When I "save as" a document, I would like the document to retain all
data entered in each field and allow no changes in their content,
including the date and time fields, when they are re-opened.

I print a hard copy of each newly generated document, but also want to
keep an exact copy on my hard drive. As it is now, whenever I open a
document, the time and date change.

I have read of a macro that protects the form and will not allow any of
the data to be reset. If true, that sounds like what I need. Password
protection is not required, but the option to password protect would be
a nice feature, too.

My ignorance of these things far outstrips my knowledge about them, I'm
afraid. Thanks for any help you may offer, in advance.

Hi Inviernos,

Instead of using formfields for the date and time, use { CREATEDATE } fields
with the appropriate switches date formatting switches. They will show the
date and time that the document was created from the template and they will
not change when the document is saved and later re-opened.
