retaining ACCESS-formatted text in VISIO?

HastyPuddin

Good morning.
In an ACCESS database I have 2 IP address fields. An input mask formats
them with decimal notation and a trailing slash. A various queries pull the
particular data.
When the query data is linked to shapes in VISIO2007, the formatting is
removed.
-->How do I retain this formatting?
Thanks,
Greg. Eckrich

You might be able to do this by changing the Data Type in the Column
Settings dialog. Right click in the External Data window and choose Column
Settings. Select the field and then change the Data Type to String.

Good afternoon Mark,

Tried your suggestion but to no avail. I tried all the available Column
Formats! They did change the displayed data except to decimal notation of an
IP address.

Further thoughts?

Thanks,
Greg. Eckrich

I read ip addresses into v2007 with no problems (from access, excel, and sql
server) using multiple techniques. Are you loading datarecordsets or are you
using something else?

Good morning and Happy 4th!

Thanks for the response.
Let me explain what I am doing in answer to your question.
Racked network equipment information is being captured in an Access database
including two IP address fields. These two fields are text fields. An input
mask formats them for IP decimal notation. Various queries pull the data
based upon rack number. The queries are the external data sources for
VISIO2007. In Access and in the Access queries the data is / holds its
format. When it apppears in the External Data window it is no longer
formatted.

A little long, but does it answer your question?

Thanks,
Greg.
