retreiving messages when closed

I use Outlook 2003 at work to retreive my messages from my email server, and
it is setup to remove them from the server. Recently, if I leave my office
and close down Outlook so that I will be able to retreive my messages on my
PDA while I am away, Outlook continues to retreive my messages and I am
unable to get them through my PDA. When I come back to my office and re-open
Outlook all of the new messages appear in my inbox before Outlook has a
chance to do a send/receive. My Task Manager does not show Outlook running
but somehow it appears to be in the background.

Hi Les

It could be your synch software causing this issue. Are you doing a complete
synch with your PDA to Outlook before you exit Outlook?

Do you have any other Add Ins that integrate with Outlook that may
interfere, such as antivirus that actively scans incoming/outgoing email or
antispam software or fax software?

Some days I don't sync at all and it still keeps retreiving messages after
Outlook is closed. I don't have any add ins installed as part of Outlook, my
mail host scans and filters email before I get it.

Some common reasons why Outlook will not shut down completely when you click either the X or Exit:

1. PDA synchronization software with your PDA in the cradle.
2. WinFax Pro (especially 10.02 in Outlook 2003) - contact their support for an alleged fix.
3. Franklin-Covey Plan Plus!
4. COM Add-ins.
5. Mail reminder add-ins that keep a stub of Outlook open in the background to check for new mail and fire reminders.
6. Anti-virus/firewall programs that are set to scan incoming and outgoing mail.
7. Skype addin- update to the latest version
8. Infuzer
