Retrieval of registration codes from Microsoft

Hi,

recently had to remove and reload Office for Mac 2001 when an add-on
created problems for me (MathType is the plug in), unfortunately after
loading the product, I couldn't find the original box or documentation
with the registration code. I did register the product with Microsoft, but
there seems to be no facility on their website (unlike Adobe, which
does) for me to retrieve my code, any ideas anyone??

Thanks

Unfortunately, registering with MS doesn't record your CD key for
retrieval. About all registering does is allow you to sign up for an
electronic newsletter.

You'll have to call Product Support Services - you can find the number at

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;CNTACTMS

Presumably you'll need some kind of proof of ownership, but I don't know
what PSS will consider acceptable.

Generally true, but with Office 98 and 2001, the CD key should be the two
center sections of the Product ID in the About... Box, the 3- and 7-digit
sections.

By the way, if MathType gave you problems, their people seem very helpful
and responsive and occasionally answer questions here. Try the support from
their site, if you haven't already. (dessci.com)

True, but since the OP said that he removed Office, I was assuming that
the PID was gone, too. If he didn't use Remove Office, it *might* still
be there...

True...he also said he reloaded it, which I interpreted as it was on the
machine, though I didn't quite understand how, as I thought saving the PID
was an OS X thing. Although maybe he just meant "tried to reload it, but
got nowhere without the number" and I misunderstood. Although the number of
people who say they've written down the product ID but not the CD key has
always confused me...
