Retrieving document ID from Sharepoint

I'm publishing a form (SP1) to a Sharepoint forms library, and whenever you
fill out and save the form, the doc gets assigned a unique ID number from
Sharepoint (1, 2, 3, etc).

Is there a way (preferably using all JScript and no managed code, and no web
services) to retrieve this ID field from the sharepoint list the next time
the document is opened, and set a node in the document to it? Can someone
point me to an example?
