Retrieving E-Mails

I have just recently upgraded to Microsoft Office Pro. 2004 from
Office X
I have been using Entourage for several years.

I have noticed (in both versions) that when I use Entourage to "send
and receive", E-Mails, that sometimes I am unable to retrieve my
mail. The message in the lower right hand corner is "There are no
pending schedules".

I can successfully send E-Mails, (although it does appear to take a
bit longer than usual), I am unable to retrieve anything from any of
my accounts. The problem seems to be intermittent and can last
anywhere from a few moments to all day.

Is there a simple adjustment or change that I can make in my settings?
Or is this something that needs greater attention?

This can be very frustrating!!!
