Retrieving file prior to saved changes

C

Chuck

I am working in Word 2000 and recently retrieved a file to
make changes and save as another file name.
Unfortunately, I saved the changes to the file under the
same file name instead of performing a "Save as.." and
naming a new file. The last time I made revisions to this
file was longer than my file history options are setup for
so I could not retrieve the previous version from the
History and I also was unsuccessful in retrieving from the
Temporary file folder. Any suggestions on how to retrieve
the previously saved file?

Even if the file were in the History, you wouldn't be able to open it; you'd
get the current version (the History is just shortcuts to filenames). If you
have "Always create backup copy" checked on the Save tab of Tools | Options,
you'll find the previous version saved as "Backup of <filename>.wbk" (you'll
need to display All Files to see it). If not, now you know why that option
is valuable.
