retrieving prior version of word documents

I accidently saved a document over several other
documents. I would like to retrieve the old documents
that I overwrote. Is there any technique to do this.

I'm looking for a tool that works like system restore but
that also restores previous versions of data.

Any help would be much appreciated.

There are various programs that can do this, including
Norton Utilities, but only if the disk space used by the
previous version of your document has not been
overwritten. The more you've done since the originals were
overwritten, the less likely are your chances of
recovering anything - especially if your OS setup uses a
variable swap/paging file size.

Other programs, such as Go Back, may also prevent this
from happening, by preserving the older versions. But it
doesn't sound like that will help in this case.
