Returning to Office XP Pro

Krystina

I downloaded the trial for Office 2007. Since we transfer files back and
forth to other offices who do not have it, it was more of a pain than an
improvement. I removed Office 2007 using add/remove programs, but now my XP
Pro is gone. How can I get it back when the installation disk is in an office
4 hrs away? I need my files TODAY!!! HELP!

MSoft has a converter (whatever) that allows Office '03 users open and edit
Office '07 files. You do not have to remove Office '07 because the others in
your organization can't open the files you generate, those locations (users)
can go to the MSoft Website and get a utililty that lets them open and edit
your files. You can also "down save" your work to the earlier version. When
you Save As, you can select different versions ...

The OP can down-save the files to an earlier version so that the others in
her organization can open them. This would be faster than the courier, and
permanant.

The other offices can go to MSoft and get a Compatibility tool that lets the
earlier version of Office open the current version files. This would be
faster than the courier, and permanant.

But since the OP has uninstalled the '07 version he probably now has no
access to any Office product less than 4 hours away.

To the OP, until you can get the Office package reinstalled (either '07 or
XP) download Open Office from www.openoffice.org and use it as a temporary
fix. You can open and File, Save AS Office documents, Excel, Word or
PowerPoint will "mostly" open and save Office files without any issues.
Once you get your Office version up and running you can uninstall Open
Office (or leave it as a backup piece of software as I do.) As Jeff stated,
there are compatibility packages that Office XP and Office 2003 users can
download and install to open Office 2007 version files and Office 2007 can
be set to by default save in Office '97-2003 version files.
