Reuse footnote on multiple pages?

Hi all

I'm writing a document where a particular term is used repeatedly, and
requires clarification in a footnote.

I'm familiar with using the NoteRef field to reuse a footnote/endnote number
on a page, but what I'm really trying to do is that *plus* repeat the
footnote on every page where the term appears.

So, say the term I need to explain is "London". The first time I use
"London" on Page 1 I'll create a footnote for it, and then for all other
occurrences of "London" I'll add the NoteRef field linking to that footnote.

Now... is there a way I can paste a field for *all* occurrenaces of "London"
so that the footnote appears on all pages where "London" appears?

Many thanks in advance!

After you've inserted the NOTEREF field the first time, you could copy it to
the clipboard and then perform the following find & replace operation (press
Ctrl+H to display the dialog box):

"Find what": London

"Replace with": ^&^c

Thanks Stefan, that's what I'm already doing.

My problem is that this way the footnote only appears at the bottom of the
first page, where I want it to appear on every page where the footnote term
(e.g. "London" from my example) appears.

Thanks in advance.

A simple solution is to just insert the footnote repeatedly. You can even
copy the first occurrence of the footnote reference; when pasting, the
actuall footnote will also be duplicated.

Thanks Stefan. I feared that might be my only option.

This is a requirements document which is constantly changing and having
content added and removed, so the 'first' instance of a term on a page (or
whether a term appears on a page at all) will be changing all the time, so I
wasn't looking forward to the task of having to shift these around manually
each time I create a new version.

However, I think manually shifting the footnotes or writing some VBA are my
only options at this point - but thanks very much for your help!

Hi TechieBird,

When you're needing to refer to the same term over and over, perhaps you should think of having a glossary. Footnotes really aren't
meant to be used this way.
