Reveal codes? Problems with numbering/bullets etc

I used to years ago use wordperfect. I think it was shift F7 fir reveal
codes if my memory does not fail me (though it might!). There seems no
option to see what is going on underneath from the menu. It was a little
bit like html with codes e.g <B>bold<B/> etc.

The reason I looked for this is that I often have problems when it auto
numbers or uses bullet points. Sometimes I try stop it continuing but no
joy. Or a line may be indented with no obvious reason! Word seems to have
a mind of its own!!!

Please advise.

There are no codes in Word to reveal. Formatting is by use of styles. See

Thanks for that Graham, from a quick scan so far, it looks as though styles
are not as easy to use. That said, it might just be what I am used to. I
trust once I've looked into it properly I can come back and clarify any
points.

In order to get rid of automatic paragraph numbering, go to the toolbar, click on tools, then click on the drop down arrows and select AutoCorrect, then click on AutoFormat As You Type, click on the following boxes to delete the check mark

Apply As You Type - click on Automatic bulleted list and Automatic numbered lists

Automatically As You Type - click both boxes, then click o.k

Then click on AutoForma

Do same steps by clicking on the following boxes to delete check marks

Apply - Click on Automatic bulleted lists and Other paragraphs

Preserve - Click on box belo

Always AutoFormat - Click on box below, then click o.k
