reverted back to FP 2000 client -- problems!

Dave

Hello, I've been "fortunate" enough to inherit a job
with a website which has went back and forth between
versions of Frontpage. A few months back, our biggest
customer (nearly 1GB worth of website big) had FP XP
(2003?) client installed on his computer, for some reason
or another. Recently his system had FP 2003 removed so
he is again using FP 2000.

This appears to be causing a problem with some of the
files he modified with FP 2003. When he loads the site,
he gets the following error for one of the subsites -

"The server '"' timed out. The current request did not
complete successfully."

I am NOT a web admin by trade, and was not hired for that
position, however the original admin left last week, and
his backup is out of the area for at least another week.
I know the old administrator was attempting to fix this
problem before he left, and it appears he fixed most of
the files/folders, however a few can still not be opened
from within FP 2000. Any ideas on how to fix this
problem?

fyi, I know the size of the site is huge, however I'm not
in a position to dictate how much space the user is
allowed. Regardless, the problem still needs to be
fixed. Unfortunately, reverting to Frontpage 2003 isn't
feasible, as it is currently not allowed on our network.
Thanks for any help you can offer!

Hi Dave,

That error message would not normally be associated with a version of FP but rather the size of the web or the files it contains.
Speak with the ISP / WPP to see if there is any indication in the server logs.

Also, it is a very bad idea to go backwards in software versions. Software is normally backwards compatible be never forward
compatible.

Thanks for the reply. I've found a couple of references
to META tag syntax potentially causing the problems.
Digging around online to see if I can find a good
reference. If there is a syntax problem with some of
these files, I didn't see it when making simple
comparisons to the statements listed in the MS KB.

Understood it's never a good idea to move backwards with
software. Unfortunately, I'm in a military environment,
and things don't always get done for their sound theory.
All we can do is state the reason why X should/should not
be done, back it up with data, document and press on.

Again, thanks.
