Hi - anyone have any idea why I cannot get the review toolbar to appear as a checked option. I have to select it each time I want to use it. How can I get it on the menu bar permanently? Thanks - Neil

You mean that if you use View > Toolbars > Reviewing, then quit and
relaunch, the toolbar is not there anymore??

If I'm not mistaking, the layout of the toolbars is stroed in the Normal
template. It is either corrupted (in which case you need to delete it
and let Word create a new one) or you clicked "No" when you were asked
whether modifications could be saved to it,

Hi Neil -

In Word 2008 it appears to me that the Reviewing Toolbar has been made
"contextual" ‹ If you aren't working in a doc which contains comments or
active Track Changes the bar will not stay active. If you open a doc which
contains comments or tracked changes the bar will automatically appear.
Likewise if you insert a comment or turn Track Changes on, the bar will
display. In either case it will remain displayed until you turn it off or no
longer have a doc open that requires it.

You can turn the bar on any time you wish, but it goes away of its own
accord when it isn't required. I assume it was designed like this in order
to avoid needless waste of screen real estate. If you have a reason for
needing it displayed when it doesn't really pertain there may be an
alternative to offer ‹ describe why you want it constantly displayed.

Please know that I'm not saying that this behavior is *right* or *wrong* and
if you don't like it use Help> Send Feedback to log your opinion.
