Reviewing change dates to a file

I need help!
With the exception of reviewing the drop down properties option on the tool
bar, is there any way I can review the change/ save history of a file?

I have inherited the file from another and need top carry out some back
tracking. Track changes were not enabled on the spreadsheet.
