Reviewing toolbar and ruler keep disappearing

I'm running Word 2003. The reviewing toolbar and the ruler keep disappearing.
Word cannot remember my choices between sessions, and worse, keeps taking
them away during a single session. I already unchecked
Tools/Options/General/Provide feedback with animation. It is not related. I
do have Adobe CS2.3 suite, which includes the pdf toolbar in Word. I have
already gathered that apparently various toolbar bugs are systemic in Word
2003. My question is, does anyone know of any other crutches for Word 2003's
toolbar bugs, or am I stuck with no palliatives for the remainder of the 2003
suite's lifecycle? Thanks.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the toolbars in Word 2003: 99.999% of
the problems are caused by badly written, third party add-ins.

Adobe is the biggest culprit: if Adobe Acrobat v7 is part of CS2.3 suite,
then downloading the latest updates for Acrobat should replace the crap
add-ins with ones that work without inhibiting Word's ability to save
Toolbar and most other user preference/settings.

It is Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro. I do run the updater periodically, and it is up to
date. I guess Adobe just hasn't yet addressed these problems. Seems
inexcusable if all it would take is replacing crappy add-on coding with
better coding. Thanks for the tips.
