Ribbon is a step backwards..

I know many people have complained about the
ribbon on Office 2007 Word but it IS aggravating
not being able to find various options that were
easy to locate with the old 2003/XP/2000/98 menu
bar.

I found a Microsoft site; Microsoft Office Labs
that have a Search function add-on that will
give us a quicker way to find something and
is supposed to work in Excel, PowerPoint
and Word..

Problem is, I downloaded and tried to install
the add-on but it apparently installs the set-up
but has to access the Office Labs site and it
won't allow me to finish the installation.

Is there anyone who can tell me what is happening?

Really frustrated and wished I had stayed with 2003....

Have you tried the interactive guides found here:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/training/HA102295841033.aspx?pid=CL100788241033

You can run them from the web or download files to run locally.

( I feel your pain.)

If you liked the ribbons with Office, you'll love them with Windows 7
which will be modeled after the Office 2007 ribbons. MS thinks everyone
just loves them.

Alias, I had heard about MS using the Ribbon much more in upcoming Windows
releases. Methinks MS is in for a rude surprise. Vista wasn't exactly a
rip-roaring success. I don't see an upcoming version sporting the Ribbon all
over the place becoming a sensational success.

Jack, I know how you feel. However, don't be surprised if the pro-Ribbon
crowd berates you for your opinion. Apparently, there are people who consider
the Ribbon a success.

You might want to post your question about the Search thing on the Office
Labs site. However, since MS doesn't provide any support for Office Labs
apps/add-ons, etc. you may or may not get a response. Despite Jensen Harris
(he led the team that produced the Ribbon) promoting Office Labs, there isn't
much traffic in that area.

You may also want to let MS & JH know about your opinion of the Ribbon. You
can email MS from the Office 2007 section of their website. You can send an
email to JH from his blog.

Do you have the option of reverting to Office 2003?

All the best!
