Is it possible to get the ribbon to stay open to perform say, 3 actions
rather that having open it 3 times?

Have you minimized the Ribbon? If so than AFAIK the only way to do this is
to un-minimize it, perform your three actions then minimize it again...

Regret I don't understand your acronym (AFAIK). How do you minimise and
un-minimise the ribbon, please?

Right click the ribbon > minimize the ribbon
