Rich text default value

I have a rtf field on my form bound to the Main datasource. I've set the
default value of this field to point to a value from a web service. When I
do this the field loses it's formating even though the XML source has the
proper format codes in it. Is there some way to copy values (including
formating) between RTF fields? I am sure the source field is fine because it
renders properly on the form.
