Rich Text Format and Graphics - size of document

For my job I work with Word 2003 to create reports. Recently, I created a
..doc report that contained both text and graphics (the size of the .doc file
was about 2 to 3MB). However, once the document was processed, the third
party company I deal with is required to convert the .doc file to a .rtf
file. This changed the size of the document from ~3MB to over 15MB! Is
there ways to reduce the size of the .rtf file and maintain the graphics?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Doubtful. Word 2003 can compress graphics files. Saving as RTF does not do this
- the graphics are expanded to contain all the information.
