RICHED30.DLL (not riched32.dll or riched20.dll)

Hello,

Please help me walk out of this "riched30.dll vs riched20.dll"
labyrinth.

(1) Do Office programs use riched30.dll, instead of riched20.dll?

(2) If so, is it _always_ used by Office programs? Never a chance for
riched20.dll or riched32.dll?

(3) Is riched30.dll actually richced20.dll, only renamed?

(4) If so, why bother? Why not just use the original riched20.dll?

(5) If riched30.dll is different from riched20.dll, why is there no
refererence on it at MS?

Thank you in advance.

Hi David,

Riched30.dll is not a file that is installed by
the English languge versions of MS Office in a
default installation if I recall correctly.
Where are you encountering it in Office use
and with what version of Office?

Whic version of Office do you have? My Win2K system with Office 2000 has
riched20 and riched32, but no riched30.

Actually I don't have Office. And I know the general belief that MS has
only released riched20.dll and riched32.dll for Rich Edit. But when I
did a search for "riched30.dll" at MS, I got two Office related pages
which mention it. That make me suspect that riched30.dll does exist and
Office uses it.

http://www.microsoft.com/mspress/books/index/3846b.asp

I believe that both references are misprints and that no such thing as
riched30.dll exists. I've checked the book indexed at
http://www.microsoft.com/mspress/books/index/3846b.asp (Microsoft Help
Desk for Microsoft Office 2000), and the text on page 925 refers to
riched20.dll, not riched30.dll. The description of riched20 is given as
"Rich Text Edit Control, v3.0", which may be the source of the confusion.

Thank you for digging into truth. I later suspected that the book's
index to riched30.dll might be a misprint indeed, as you suspected, but
perhaps it's a misprint of riched32.dll, because there should normally
be an index to riched32.dll, but there is none. Your clarification came
just in time. Great.

Of cource, the "riched30.dll" in the error message could easily be a
misprint.
