Right-Click Options for Opening Word Doc's

D

David

I recently uninstalled an older, stand-alone version of MS
Word from my PC running Windows ME. After which, I
installed MS Office Suite 2000 Professional, which has a
different version of MS Word.

After doing this, I've noticed that I get an error when I
try to right click on and use "open with" and
select "Microsoft Word for Windows" for MS Word files
(.doc) or other types of files I previously could
use "open with" MS Word (e.g., SAS statistical software
files).

The error message I get is "This file does not have a
program associated with it to allow this action.
Establish an association in the folder options control
panel." I've tried everything I could think of in the
file association field to no avail, and I think the
problem is that the "open with" is pointing to my old
version of Word, which was uninstalled.

How do I delete the old "open with" pointer and change the
pointer to my currently installed version of MS Word?

I started in the MS Office/Word/Application Errors
Newsgroup, and was referred here since right-click options
fall under VBA?

Thanks!!

G'day "David" <[email protected]>,

manually scan your registry for the old path fragment that is not in
the new path. Manually replace. You can also try

winword.exe /r

but I doubt that will help, worth a shot tho' as method A sux badly
right :)
