right margin disappearance

For months my MS Word docs have been plagued by a
frequent loss of the right margin. Text on a regular page
suddenly expands off the edge of view as if the line were
to go to 8" or more. Furthermore, attempting to use the
scroll bar at the bottom to get to the far right side and
grab the margin tab on the ruler line usually doesn't
work. I may get out to the right side but there's no
margin tab there AND the ruler line hasn't stuck with the
text, but rather shows a 0" to 8.5" span all to the right
of the text.

When I finally can get the right margin tab to appear on
the ruler line, then I drag it back to the proper place
for selected text, but this is time-consuming. I used MS
word successfully for many years, including many months
of this edition (Word 2002)before any of this happened.
Please advise how to avoid this, or to fix it if
necessary.

Thanks,

JT

Check the view tab of Tools | Options: Do you have "Wrap to window" checked?

I did not have Tools > Options checked. I just did that
on a selection of the troubled text and it didn't change
it. however I'll hope that having that checked will
prevent the problem in the future. If not I'll still be
looking for answers because it's causing a lot of
headaches.

Thanks for the tip.

I should mention an additional symptom: sometimes even
selecting text that won't wrap and then trying to drag
the right margin tab back into a viewable position
doesn't work, i.e. clicking on the right margin tab while
it's in a good position has no effect ont the text which
just sits out there and won't squeeze back into positon.

You don't *want* to have "Wrap to window" checked. I thought that might be
the problem. What happens if you press Ctrl+A, then Ctrl+Q?
