Right Margin Problem in Outlook 2003

When typing a NEW email O2003, the text extends beyond the right margin and
there is no way to reset the margin (e.g., by moving the settings on the
ruler or in File/Page Set Up/Margins. The problem goes away by itself and
then resurfaces sporatically. Not yet sure if it's related, but when closing
Outlook sometimes I am prompted to save the Normal.dot template file, which I
did not intentionally modify.
