ring network shape; automatically create "node and line" network

I am trying to use the ring shape to create a network. I have 8 categories,
each of which I created a ring shape for. I have many objects, each of which
is associated with multiple categories. I would like to automatically link my
objects with a connector to each of the categories that they are associated
with by having Visio create a shape for each object and automatically draw
the lines from the object ring shape to the category ring shapes that the
object is associated with. Can visio do that? How can I do that? I am very
new to Visio, and don't know much about it - the only way I know how to do
this is by hand, adding the shapes individually and drawing the lines
individually, but I have hundreds of objects, and this will take a very long
time. I do have Visio Professional, so I do know that I can link data to
shapes.

Also, is there a way to increase the size (ie, 8pt, 10pt, etc.) of the
connector line itself? When I right click on the line and select Format-line,
and change the size, all that changes is the size of the outline of the ring
network shape.
