Risk associated with Outlook Template Files (*.oft)

My company routinely receives mail from one client with an *.oft file
attached which is blocked by our gateway as a rick file attachment. I know
that we could change the gateway to pass the file but I would like a little
more information on the rick of allowing this type of Outlook file to pass
without scrunity. I understand that this is a template file, what
information or data does this type of file contain and is it a threat to
contain virual type code?

Thank YOu

If your Outlook version is 2000 SP-2 or later, such a file poses no risks at
all. It cannot run code unless you publish it to one of Outlook's forms
libraries.
