Roaming PST files, are outlook settings(rules, etc... ) stored in

S

Shams Hasan

Are things such as rules, Outlook interface settings, and settings such as
for the reading pane settings - right or bottom... part of the Outlook PST
file¿

(stuff other than Address book, mail folders, notes, tasks, calendar items -
stuff which i KNOW are a part of the PST file)... are these part of the PST
file?!

If not... where are these stored...

So i've got a general plan to roam PST files (stored on a server) for users
on my Domain. Policy pushed out via GPO and ADM templates. If the above file
(if there is such a thing) IS seperate from a PST file... is there a settings
in ADM template that can roam that?

While i'm at it what about the N2K file... can that be set to a different
location via ADM template?

ThankS!

Shams

PS: oh... and yes... i know Microsoft does not officially support placing
..pst files on a server and warns that corruption to the file may occur and
they recommend using Exchange for that still ... experimenting.

Just out of curiosity...

There are many other files (see Andreas' reply above... or list i copiued
below) that contain data from the Users Profile (other than the PST):
They all have their default locations to which they get created and stored.
Is there some way of moving these to say a different location (on a server)
.... and pointing to them through ADM templates? (so that one could push it
our through GPO).

• *.nk2 (Nicknames, Mail Addresses, the drop down menu containing cached
email addresses)... having dealt with every single user... I know this is the
most important file to them.
• *.pab (personal address book)
• *.rtf (Rich-Text Signatures) (but not all rtf files are signatures)
• *.htm (HTML Signatures); *.txt (Text Signatures)
• *.fav (Shortcuts on Outlook board)
• *.wab (Windows address book)
• *.msnpst (MSN Connector files)
• *.oft (templates)
• *.dic (dictionary)
• JunkSenders.txt and AdultSenders.txt
• extend.dat (installed Add-ins)
• [default location drive :\Documents and Settings\ user \Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook]
 frmcache.dat (individual forms)
• [default location drive :\Documents and Settings\ user \Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\FORMS]
 View.dat (User define file folder views)
 VbaProject.otm (Macros and VBA Programs)
 Outlprnt (Print properties)
 outcmd.dat (Symbol boards und Menu board)

Hi Shams,
please also read here,
some information about sharing your outlook pst file on a network drive,
respective how to share outlook
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/olshare2.htm
and
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/share.htm

but I dont think, that there is a chance to move ALL Files onto a Server.
Than its better to use a Mailserver like Exchange if you have an Network!

Don't forget to check out Outlook Profiler to see if it can help.
