Roaming signature not working.

Jonny Nation

Hey!

I am trying to find out if it is possible to have a roaming signature on XP
using OUTLOOK 2003. I have scoured the net and spoken to a few colleagues yet
I have been unable to come up with any concrete information.

If anyone knows, would you please let me know, as we are trying to deploy XP
throughout the company and would like to have the roaming signature for our
users which appears automatically whenever they log on to a computer.

Thanks in advance,

Jonny

If you are using Windows roaming profiles, the signature files and related registry entries will roam as part of the user's profile.

Hey Sue.

Thanks for your reply. We are using windows roaming profiles. I have also
set 'current user' registry settings so that the signature can follow with
the profile. Unfortunately, it still does not work. I am having to select the
profile to be used on each machine that I log on to.

A colleague has told me that 2003 can be a little 'flaky' when it comes to
OUTLOOK and signatures which is why it is not working; I do not know how true
this is.

Any further assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jonny

Could you clarify what you mean by that?

Yeah, sorry Sue; I noticed my mistake after I had posted it. I meant that I
still need to go into 'Mail Format' in order to select the signature to be
used or the template to be used, which I guess would be stored on our shared
drive.

The signature files themselves must be in the Signatures folder under the individual user's Windows profile folders, which should be roaming (or redirected).

Signatures are per-account in Outlook 2003, so the signature information is stored with the mail profile information in the registry. Are the roaming users seeing the same mail profiles on each machine? If not, then there's something wrong with the roaming.

Good morning Sue.

I am testing this with my profile.
I have a 'Signatures' folder @ the following path:
C:\Documents and Settings\Jonny.Admin\Application Data\Microsoft\Signatures
I also have it under my other accout in the following location:
C:\Documents and Settings\jonny.nation\Application Data\Microsoft\Signatures

The mail account is in the name of Jonny Nation, but set up so th@ I can
view it when logged on as my admin account. When logging on to other
computers though, the signature has to be selected.

I shall talk to another team here and let you know, as the registry setting
keeps disappearing also.

Thanks for your help,

Jonny

Each time that I log on to a different PC, I have to reselect the signature

Jonny.Admin and Jonny.Nation will have different mail profiles, so you can't expect the signature settings to be the same (unless you make them so manually at least once).

When you log onto other computers, do you have the same data in C:\Documents and Settings\Jonny.Admin\Application Data\Microsoft\Signatures and do you see the same mail profiles?

Hey again Sue.

My accounts have been set up so that I can use the same mail profile on each.

It transpires, after days of work and conversing with different colleagues,
that the server team do not allow the signature details to follow the roaming
profile. I apologise for having wasted your time; I really have appreciated
your help though! Thanks very much indeed.

Take it easy, Jonny
