Roll Back Completed Tasks to show complete before project starts -

M

Michael Balda

I am importing a project. When it imports tasks and all parts of the
project, it shows completed tasks starting on the project date - which mucks
up everything. How do I make all completed tasks and partial completed tasks
show on the Gantt chart-start-end dates as complete before the start date of
the project? For example a 5 day task is complete, then another task is
linked to it which is 5 days - Project is showing the uncompleted 5 day task
can not start for 10 days because the completed task that is 100% complete
can not start until the start date of the project. I have similar issue with
partial completed tasks. Appreciate your help on changing a setting
somewhere.. Is this clear to you? If not let me know. Again, Project starts
9-30-05, I import a completed task which duration is 5 days project shows the
completed tasks starts today’s date 10-05-05 ends 10-10-05, the next
uncompleted task linked to this one starts 10-11-05 and ends 10-16-05 -- The
uncompleted task should be able to start as of today’s date.. --- I need to
roll back, get completed tasks to show complete before today’s date...

Hi,

I've never actually seen this, but why not set the project start (Project,
Project Information) to 1/1/1984 (or anywhere in between)?
There is a setting "New Tasks start on Project Start" in Tools, Options,
Schedule but that should not influence completed tasks.

Are you sure they are SET 100% completed? You don't just hope they are
completed because they carry a date in the past do you? Bexcause that won't
help, they then are subject to all calculation rules
If nbecessary you can set all work done before today to "completed" through
Tools, Tracking, Update Project.

Hello again Jan...

I am 100% sure the tasks that I am importing are 100% complete - I am not
hoping they are complete because of a date field - ALL tasks are importing
the % complete field which read 100% or partial complete %'s accordingly.
Does that answer your question to me?

Hallo,

Yes, definitely.
Have you tried working with an earlier project start date?

Goto Project, Project Information, see the "Status Date" field, just change
that date to be one day before the start date of your project and it will
roll back all completed tasks to be complete before the project start
date.... Just changing that date gave me everything I needed....

FYI - Changing the start date, rolled back all NOT completed tasks to the
start date and left all the completed tasks on the date they were completed -
so that did not work.

FYI - The tools tracking did not do anything that I could visibly see. It
said it calculated something but I did not know what it did or for that
matter what it still does do...

Thanks for your help Jan.

Hi Michael,

Glad you sorted it out.
It would be so nice if the bnext time you ask the right question.

I quote from your last answer:
left all the completed tasks on the date they were completed -
so that did not work.

Now in your very first post that was your complaint - that completed tasks
DID NOT stay the day they were completed!

So you made me look for a solution to a non-existing problem.
Greetings,

I apologize for me confusing you. I tried everything you told me to do and
nothing you suggested worked for what I was asking help for. I obviously did
not explain myself well enough to share my problem - get assistance. Please
do not be mad and not help me next time. I tried all the things you told me
to try but my inability to describe the problem is my fault. Again thanks
for trying to help me.

All I wanted to know was how to make completed items that I imported as
complete before the project start date - that way the depencies that were
upon them were not help up waiting to start for a task that was already
complete...

Again, thanks for your help Jan.
