I unfortunately bought Office 2007 Home & Student when buying my new PC. I'm
not pleased at all with Office 2007 - to be extremely polite - and I'm
wondering if there's a way to install Office XP or an older version legally.
I would not like to commit piracy, but I don't want to pay for another
Office-version.

You can install any previous version you like, if you buy it, and about the
only source for an earlier version is Ebay or similar

I totally agree. Why did Microsoft decide to mess about with a set up
millions had grown up with? I used to have the toolbars just how I wanted
them, and now I have them just as Microsoft wants them. Unnecessary
bureaucratic tyranny! Things take two clicks instead of one, and my screen is
full of functions I NEVER use.

Hello,

You might want to have a look at this post, which explains how to minimize
the Ribbon, how to customize your Quick Access Toolbar and basically how to
make good use of this Ribbon.

It's entitled: How I learned to stop worrying and love the Ribbon
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/HA102553291033.aspx

I hope it will help you.
Best wishes,

Do you have the CDs for Office XP or Office 2003? I know for a fact that you
can definitely install the latter on Vista (I assume that's what you got on
your new PC). Perhaps you can buy the an older version on eBay (as another
poster suggested) or from a friend, co-worker, etc.

BTW, I do share your opinion about Office 2007. Used the trial version for a
few weeks and decided the product wasn't worth the money MS wanted.

hth!

<sigh> It does take maturity to understand a lot of Office users do not
consider the Ribbon "progress"!

You may want to let MS know about your opinion. You can do so from their
website (the Office 2007). Jensen Harris, who led the Ribbon UI design team
and some posters here claim great success for the Ribbon. Of course, MS
hasn't published any data to support that claim.
