Rolling up resources in subtasks in Task Usage

I'm running Project Professional 2003 and am trying to roll up the hours for
resources in sub-tasks to the task level. For example:

I'd like to be able to show:

Task 1
Subtask 1.1
Resource: Dave 6 hrs
Subtask 1.2
Resource: Dave 4 hrs

as

Task 1
Resource: Dave 10 hrs

Thanks,

- James

One way I can get the info I need from the resource pool Resource Usage view
by applying custom filters. It would be nice to list the resources in a a
task usage view though so that many resources could be shown for each task.

This is perplexing since there are not resources assigned at the Summary Task
levels. Here's a convoluted way to get there ...

Insert a new field, example Text5. In that field, you can put Task1 for
every task listed under task one ... Task1.1, Task1.2 would all contain Task1
in the "Test5" field.

You need to copy these "Text5" fields from the Task Views to the Resource
Views. See FAQ 37 at http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm. A macro is needed
for this purpose.

Once the macro has been executed, switch to Resource Usage View. Display the
Text5 Column. Then, Project/Customize Group By. In the first sorting field,
use "Text5" then in the second sort order use "Name." Since you are on the
Resource page, name will point to "Dave" not task name. You'll also get
sorts for Bob, Ted, Carol and Alice.

There may be one more trick. If everything shows up on the first level sort
as "No Value" with only one indenture, then go back to the Customized Group
boxes and select the "Group Assignments not Resources" check box and then
change your first sort Field type from Resource to Assignment (or vice versa).

Hopefully someone has an easier solution ....
