Rotating a Textbox in Word 2008 Possible?

I've been trying to find where can I rotate my textbox to a certain degree. I tried looking at the formatting textbox menu (by using right click) I cannot change the rotation of the textbox.

I also tried using help "Rotate of Flip an Object" and it told me to go to "Size, Rotation and Ordering" but once I choose my textbox, then there is no menu for this at all. There is a menu called "Textbox" instead but there is no option for rotation.

So is there a way to rotate a textbox at all? This is really frustrating!

Thank you.

Afraid not - Text boxes can't be rotated. You can ad text to other shapes
which can be rotated, but even with them the shape rotates but the text
stays horizontal. You can create rotated objects with text in PPt or other
graphics-based program then bring the shape into the doc.

I too am having trouble rotating a text box - I rotated 2 text boxes on a document but when I try to do it again, I don't see the rotate, flip menu. I can't seem to figure out how it happened before.

Hi Marlene -

Did you read the *reply*?

You must have been working with a shape other than a Text Box or in a
program other than Word 2008... There is no other viable explanation:)

Though it is not possible to directly rotate a text box (very
saddening to me the loss of features between Word 2000 and Word 2008),
one can create a text box, type the desired text within it, then
select the text and go to the format menu, choosing "Text
Direction..." This only works if you want it rotated 90 degrees to
the left or right.

Why would Microsoft remove this useful feature? Believe it or not, I
actually used this feature fairly often.

I hope my workaround is good enough for your needs, infernal and
Marlene.

Best Regards,

Adrian

Hi! I hope this answer helps...

I, too, was looking for a way to rotate a text box, and finally found a way! So you have to click on the text box, then at the top menu, there's an icon of a sideways paragraph (its kind of over to the right side.) Click on that icon, and you can rotate it each way, except for upside-down. I use a mac, so it works for me. I don't know if it's on other computers but its worth a try! :)

Select the text box and use the menu at the top Format > Text Direction. Itrotates the text within the box rather than rotating the entire text box. Some people might have an icon at the top of the window that does the same thing as one of the other replies mentions.

Really bummed that even the Text Direction option doesn't allow for 180 degree rotation of text. I wanted to use it for printing a card that would fold in the middle and result in the text being upright.

How about changing Page Setup to Landscape and using the 90-degree
text options? I did that with a couple of homemade gift cards last
Christmas.
