The shapes *can* be rotated, but the text will remain horizontal. The only option in Word is to use AutoText, which can be freely rotated as an object. Perhaps that will do the trick. Optionally you can create the rotated text object in a different program then copy it into your doc.PowerPoint, for example, allows rotation of text boxes as well (as any other shape) & the text within rotates accordingly.
