Round issues with tables between Word 2008for Mac and Word 2003 (Windows)

Hi,

I have many documents that I used to edit just fine in both Word 2004 on the Mac and Word 2003 on Windows, now that I've upgraded to Word 2008 on the Mac I'm running into problems.

The documents have tables with a header row that has shading. When I open these documents in Word 2008 they appear to be OK but after I save them then some of the tables lose their heading row shading (and other formatting). When these documents are opened in Word 2003 the shading is still missing.

Anybody having this issue?

Cheers,

Steve

Hi Steve:

Yours is the first report we have of that.

Which exact shadings are you using?

Cheers

Hi John,

Apologies for not replying sooner!

I have a "Table Grid" style in my document and the header row in the tables has a 25% gray fill. I can send you screenshots and sample documents if you want? Just let me know.

Cheers,

Steve

Hi John,

I just completed a quick test:

1. Created a new blank document, without a template, in Word 2003.
2. Created a table using Table / Insert / Table.
3. Select the first row and then used Format / Borders and Shading to set a Shading / Patterns / Style of 25%.
4. Opened the document in Word 2008 on my Mac, it worked fine.

So, I guess there's something funky with either my styles in the other documents or a problem with the template.

What do you think?

Cheers,

Steve

Hi Steve:

My "guess" would be "The Styles". Table Styles were not terribly reliable
in Word 2004.

I assume they will be a little more stable in Word 2008.

Personally, I don't use Table Styles, because I think they miss the point
:) I have never been able to produce a Table Style that complies with the
requirements of any of the style guides I have found at any of the companies
I have worked with.

You can get them "close", but not "compliant" :)

Hope this helps
