This may not be available in all versions of Word, but I believe it is in at
least Word 97 and above:

1. Display the Drawing toolbar.

2. On the AutoShapes menu, choose Basic Shapes.

3. In Word 2002 the rounded rectangle is the first shape in the second row.

The yellow diamond at one corner allows you to change the corner radius.
