Row Level Tracking

I use access 2000. After reading the help subject on this matter I am
confused as to whether or not to check the "Row Level Tracking" in the table
properties.
The default is checked on my tables that are linked to the back end. I have
five front ends connected to the back-end three off which do the same
function (data input) the other two are set up to run reports and queries
and offer different access then the first three. Any of the three may access
the same record at any given time.
Can somebody explain the best scenarios to use or not use record level
tracking? "Layman" terms are best.
