row sizing

ARRGH I have a table with two columns. Each column has
rows that need to be different heights, but when I try to
resize a row in 'column A', the adjacent row in 'column
B' resizes also. How can I resize just a row in 'column
A' only.

Using Office XP, have checked 'Allow ..rows to align and
lay out apart'.

I don't believe you can have cells of different height in the same row (only
of different widths in the same column). But you can fake this by merging
and splitting cells vertically.
