Rows not staying together

Hello. I am using Word2K on Windows 2K. I have a word table that has been
created as a three column table but with one continuous row. Information
is typed into the columns and the 'Return' key is pressed each time I need
to drop a line. The table spreads over a number of pages and has been
working OK. I am at a point where I have come out of the table, which has
finished near the bottom of a page and pressed Return 3-4 times to start
the next page.
I have typed a heading and started a new table same as before. Information
has been entered in row 1 and the tab key pressed to start row 2. Now, the
2nd row jumps to the top of the following page leaving me with a heading
and 1 row of information on the previous page. I have looked at various
settings in the table properties, ie allow row to break across pages,
table cell sizes etc but cannot see why it would do this. There are no
hidden page/section breaks.
Does anyone have any ideas how to make the table 'whole' again.

Thanks in advance.

Ket

Leaving aside the wisdom of having a single-row table spreading over several
pages (generally not recommended), here are a few things to consider:

1. Don't ever press Enter more than once. Start a new page by pressing
Ctrl+Enter to insert a manual page break or apply the "Page break before"
property to your heading (or heading style).

2. To see why your table rows are jumping, examine all the paragraphs in
them to make sure they are not formatted as "Keep with next" or "Page break
before."

Hello there

If your multi page table is a single row then you will have problems
lining up text from column to column.

What happens when you move to the next column is that the cursor
insertion point moves to where the previous text ended. e.g. If you
have added a page and a half of text into one column only, when you
move to the next column your cursor will not be level with your new
text.

Adding lots of empty lines to make the text positions match is not a
good idea in Word. Empty paragraph markers store formatting options
whether or not you have used them and this will add to your file size
without giving you any additional functionality.

If you need text to line up across columns (e.g. like in the old
Wordperfect parallel columns function) then your best bet is to put
each paragraph into a separate row and hide gridlines between them for
consecutive paragraphs that need to be kept together.

Hope this helps
