I am running Exchange 2003 SP2 in an FE\BE configuration. All my users
connect via RPC over HTTP with WinXP SP2 and Outlook 2003 SP2 . I have about
750 users total across multiple geographies. Out of my 750 users, about 10%
of them face frequent disconnections from Outlook. When Outlook disconnects,
the Connection Status windows shows the directory as connected, but mail
disconnected. This will happen about 20 or so times during the day and will
last anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes or so before getting connected again.
That said, if the user restarts Outlook it will connect immediately. We have
done some extensive troubleshooting of this issue and still cannot seem to
find a root cause.
Again, this issue is randomly occurring to about 10% of our user base. There
is no apparent commonality between these users other than the Exchange
server. The issue does not hop to different users. As reference, on one of
our locations, there are about 50 users and only 5 are affected. Truthfully
is issue seems more complicated than it might seem on the surface and there's
no way I could explain all the troubleshooting that has been done up until
now. Any additional insight would be great.
