RPC over HTTP via the registry

I am looking to deploy RPC over HTTP to multiple PCs with multiple Outlook
2003 profiles and need to find a way of enabling RPC over HTTP with
preconfigured settings through a registry key that will make these changes
for all user profiles.

I have looked at RegMon and FileMon to try and discover which registry
values or local files are being modified or created as a result of enabling
and configuring RPC over HTTP but not having much luck.

I am under the impression that such values may be encrypted and simply not
visible but wondered if anyone knew of a way to do this. As a last resort I
have searched the entire registry for our http outlook web access address but
this is not listed in any keys.

Any ideas much appreciated.

have you checked out each key at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
Messaging Subsystem\Profiles

I have checked out this section of the registry many times, but whilst it
contains reference to the name of your exchange server and mailbox etc, it
does not contain visible information on any of the RPC over HTTP settings,
specifically the Outlook Web Access address.
However it must be one of these encrypted hex keys that contains the
information, but as to which one I have no idea.

Did you open each key to look for the data or export it to a text file and
browse or search?

If so, you'd know it was the 001f6622 value.

On my copy, its under this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Windows
Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\<profile name>\13dbb0c8aa05101a9bb000aa002fc45a

change the server name in the address field outlook uses and refresh the
registry to confirm. (no need to restart outlook for it to take effect)

Thanks Diane, I went through each key but failed to notice that the address
was seperated by full stops. I'm assuming that if I import this registry key
along with a few other relevant ones that it will produce an Outlook profile
with preconfigured settings.

I guess you've done this before from your knowledge?

Importing the registry can be fraught with problems and result in a corrupt
profile... not sure if this setting can be controlled using the CIW - that's
really the best way to do it so that you know you have all the necessary
keys.

I have been down the route of the Custom Installation Wizard and successfully
managed to create a custom install file with all the preconfigured settings I
needed but ran into a brick wall when using the switch commands to run it.
It was prompting to run the file through the control panel which didn't make
any sense.
