Recently encountered an issue with one user using Outlook 2003 (no sp) to
connect to our Exchange system using RPC over HTTPS.
At anyone of our many remote locations, this user connects his laptop to the
firewall/router (hardware) and opens Outlook. Outlook takes up to 3 minutes
before it says "connected" and starts downloading email. Watching the
connection monitor I see that it just takes for ever for it to establish the
connection. I had 3 other users use the same network cable and the same
firewall port try to connect with their laptop, but their Outlook connected
instantly. The user who is having the problem has no problems when connecting
from home or any place else, like a coffee shop, just at any of our locations.
All users run Windows XP Pro SP2 and have the same settings. The only
difference between the user with the problem and all others, is that his
laptop is brand new. He has every Windows update applied and his laptop has a
gigabit nic with speed duplex settings set to Auto. The firewall he is
plugged into is a 10/100. I'm thinking it is either a new windows update that
is causing some issues, or his nic having a hard time negotiating with the
Firewall. However, once he is connected, he can send and recieve emails with
no issues, and never has any problem browsing the web or downloading files,
so I'm not sure it has anything to do with the nic.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
