RPC Synchronization

Greetings:

At the company where I work, RPC over HTTP was recently enabled.
Shortly afterwards, the tech support company disbanded. We are left with a
question as to whether RPC over HTTP allows email synchronization of inbox
folders. We connect mainly through Outlook Web Access but also have a Citrix
site. One user reported that synchronization did not occur but we do not
know if the configuration was flawed or RPC does not offer synchronization.

Yes, RPC over HTTP offers synchronisation. It's designed to work just like
if you are connected to your Exchange on your LAN. Is it jsut for one user
or for all your users? If it's just for one he/she should check his firewall
settings.

Much thanks for the timely reply. RPC was configured for everyone. The user
in question just happened to be the first test of the new configuration and
so the
RPC client on the laptop was enabled. Don't think its related but a backup
alert revealed that this users archive.pst was corrupt. I am assuming that
you are referring to the software firewall. I would say that this user has
been getting mail through OWA and Citrix for two years and a firewall setting
would have affected that as well. Will check these recommended items and add
a post should the problem continue. Much thanks for the assistance.

No, being able to use OWA and Citrix doesn't say anything about whether or
not you are also able to use RPC over HTTP. But in general port 80 should be
accessible for Outlook for it to work. Disabling the firewall for testing
purposes should give you a clear answer on that.
