RSS Feeds

Is there a way to move the default RSS Folder to a separate PST file? I
currently use Windows Live and my Live account is my default account.
Therefore Outlook insists to put the RSS Feeds folder there. The problem
with this (and Live email) is that Microsoft has decided to prevent nested
folders (or subfolders) within Live/MSN/Hotmail accounts. This causes all
my RSS Feeds to be jumbled up under one single folder structure.

I realize this is a shortcoming or deficiency of Microsoft Live Hotmail
however if there's a way to move the RSS Feeds folder to another location I
can overcome this severe shortcoming that Live mail has imposed on all of
us.

I am unable to make another account the default mail account so that is not
an option.

Thanks
Bryan

Yes, create a new pst-file via File-> New-> Outlook Data File...
After that go to Tools-> Account Settings...-> tab RSS
Here select an RSS feed and press Change Folder and point it to the newly
created pst-file.

Thanks. I was aware of that but hoped there was a way to make another folder
the "default" RSS Feeds folder and utilize the Common Feeds list so that I
don't have to maintain two different RSS Feeds lists.

Your suggestion works for individual feeds but you have to move each one of
them individually.

It seems that RSS Feeds in Microsoft Outlook is an incomplete solution. If
there's such a thing as a "Common RSS Feeds" list then by definition
Microsoft isn't following it's on design and/or intent with it. Therefore
the marketing pitch of a common feeds list is a rather deceptive or empty
promotion. I'm not aware of any other applications that utilize the common
feeds list so the only one that does (Outlook) isn't doing it properly, or
rather completely.

I'd like to be able to:

1) Define the folder of my choice in Outlook for RSS feeds. I want it to be
a separate PST or somewhere I can have multiple levels of folders.
2) Point Outlook to an OPML file to import the feeds *--OR--* tell it to get
them from the Common Feeds List
3) Have Outlook create the folder structure I've previously defined and
populate them with the proper feeds.
4) Have Outlook sync deletions and new feeds with the Common Feeds list.

Thus a "true" Common Feeds list.

Do you know if there any improvements to this being considered? RSS Feeds
are incredibly useful and time saving however Outlook's implementation of
them just adds the time back to the maintenance of them since it doesn't
sync with the Common Feeds List and doesn't allow the default folder to be
outside of the default mail account.

The limitation is with having set the Outlook Connector account as your
default and the Outlook Connector not supporting it; Outlook isn't the
limiting factor here ;-)

What you can do is set the pst-file as your default data file. Then the
Common Feeds List will sync accordingly.
Windows Live Mail also supports the CFL and other applications are free to
tap into the CFL as well. The fact that they don't is the decision of the
3rd party developer.

You're partly correct. For certain Microsoft Live Hotmail is presenting me
the biggest problem. IF it would allow multiple levels of folders then that
part of the problem would be solved. I'm unable to set the pst as my
default email account as I have no POP accounts to utilize. I have two
accounts in Outlook - Microsoft Live Hotmail for personal email and Google
Apps/Gmail (IMAP) for my business.. IMAP message stores can not be set as
the default mail delivery. The other part of the problem is indeed
Outlook - it doesn't truly sync with the CFL. Delete a feed from Outlook
and it doesn't get deleted from the CFL. The help files state this.

Ironically Windows Live Mail does a much better job with RSS than Outlook.
There's apparently no interest by other developers to utilize the CFL.

So are there any improvements with RSS coming for Outlook?

There is a big difference between setting a certain account as the default
and setting a certain message store as the default. One doesn't have to do
anything with the other. You can most definitely set a message store as the
default which is different from your default mail account.

I can't answer that one. You can open a feedback/support incident for this
with Microsoft Product Support.
