rtf file weirdness - \clpadt vs \clpadl

Hello Dave,

I have reproduced the issue in Word XP, Word 2003 and Word 2007. Below is
my repro-steps.

1. create a neew Word document, and add a table with only one cell into it.
2. set the cell's margin as: top: 0.1cm, left: 1cm, bottom: 2cm, right: 3cm.
3. save the document as RTF format and open it in Notepad.exe
4. it shows: \clpadl57\clpadt567\clpadb1134\clpadr1701for the cell.

According to the Word 2003 RTF spec
(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=ac57de32-17f0-4b46
-9e4e-467ef9bc5540) P63, \clpadlN is Left cell margin or padding. and
\clpadtN is Top cell margin or padding. As you said, it seems that the
value of \clpadl57 and \clpadt567 is switched. I have reported this issue
to the product team to let them check it. I will get back to you as soon as
possible. Thank you for your patience and the great feedback!

Sincerely,

Hello Dave,
Can you please try also saving it using the Word 2003 XML WordML format?
That appears to be even worse. Try with Word 2003, Word 2007 does seem
to be ok with it.
I have tried to save it as Word 2003 XML format. When I set top: 0.1 cm,
left: 1cm, bottom: 2cm and right: 3cm, it turns out to be:
<w:tcMar>
<w:top w:w="57" w:type="dxa"/>
<w:left w:w="567" w:type="dxa"/>
<w:bottom w:w="1134" w:type="dxa"/>
<w:right w:w="1701" w:type="dxa"/>
</w:tcMar>
It seems that Word XML works as expected. I also try to save it as html
format, and find that Html format also works as expected.

I am still consulting why the top and left is switched in RTF format. I
will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thanks for your patience.
Sincerely,

Hello Dave,

Thanks for your patience. Word Product team helped to confirm that the
switch of \clpadt and \clpadl is an issue of Word product, and it exists in
all the versions of Word. Unfortunately, there is no way of making a proper
fix here that would not break compatibility with all prior versions of
Word. It seems that the best fix is to change the RTF specification to
reflect this. Please regard \clpadt and \clpadl as switched when you are
developing softwares related to it. Sorry for the inconveniences, and
again, many thanks for your great feedback. I believe that other community
members will also benefit from your experience sharing.

Have a great day!

Sincerely,
