RTF files - Must save to disk to view

I have a strange issue. When I receive an email with a RTF file attachment I
must first save the file to disk and then open the file otherwise I receive
errors in the document such as "Error! Reference source not found". I have
not been able to find a resolution in the Knowledge base. If you have a
resolution please respond. Thank you for your time.
