rtf table numbering

Old FrameMaker files were outputted as "Microsoft RTF 1.6" (whatever
that means -- there were two varieties of rtf in FM's Save As list),
so that they could be turned into Word2007 files, and everything is
fine -- even the index entry markers -- except that the numbering of
table headings seems to have gotten stuck: successive tables in a
document do have numbers incremented, except once in a while they
restart at 1.

Right-clicking doesn't offer a "Resume Numbering" option.

The table label and number don't show up in Format > Numbering, and
they can't be selected (just like other automatic numbering).

Is there a way to get them to number properly, short of replacing them
with Insert Caption entries?

(Eventually it will all get fed into InDesign, so maybe I shouldn't
worry about it at all at this point?)

don't think you have this option there (short of using a field switch,
but you'd only need that for *not* numbering consecutively ...).

That probably means you don't have any SEQ fields there at all (not
surprisingly after a converstion from Frame, I reckon). If you select
such a table heading and hit SHIFT-F9 to display field codes, does
anything change?

with Insert Caption entries?

Probably not -- but that shouldn't be hard as you can use a single
Find-Replace run once you've got your syntax right.

(Eventually it will all get fed into InDesign, so maybe I shouldn't
worry about it at all at this point?)

I dunno (never had to work much with ID). It's supposed to be better
with numbers these days, so I'm sure you could do it there, too. Depends
if it converts the numbers to raw text anyway (then you will want them
right in Word first -- and I can hardly see this done easier in ID).

be getting, (finally) has the two most needed features: cross
referencing and automatic page creation (previously you had to make as
many new linked blank pages as you thought your imported text would

Ouch! I'm sure this makes sense from a page layout standpoint, but speaking
