Outlook 2003 on XP Pro
I pull all of my email into a local personal folder. I get a lot of email
from various automated overnight jobs running on one or more of our HP-UX
boxes. They have various subjects but all have the same value in the FROM
field. Starting from a clean slate (no rules) I create a rule from one of
these messages, specifying
Apply this rule after message arrives
from <name of sender>
and on this machine only
move it to the <name of folder> folder.
and execute the rule immediately.
As more mail comes in (say, the next morning) some of the mail that meets
the rule is diverted to the specified folder, but others that also appear to
meet the rule remain in the Inbox of my local personal folder. So I create a
rule from one of them, choose to execute it immediately, and the mail is
moved to the specified folder.
Now I have two client rules. One called "Fred", the other called "Fred (1)"
and I can find no difference between the two. I have seen this behavior
before, but in the heat of the moment chose to ignore it, or delete all of my
rules and start over. Now I'm seeking help to figure out what's going on ...
why a rule appears to be ignored, causing me to create a second, identical,
rule to properly process all of my incoming mail.
