Rule setup in Vista vs. XP

I am able to create a Rule in Outlook2007 in XP with an action to "reply
using a custom template." When I do a "Run Now..." I can see each of the
elements of the Rule as it is about to be executed including the path to the
custom template (mytemplate.oft).

However, when I create the same rule in Vista Outlook 2007 and go to "Run
Now..." I see all of the elements EXCEPT the element with the path to the
mytemplate.oft.

I am convinced (although possibly incorrectly) after much testing that the
location of the mytemplate.oft under Vista is not in the right place.

In XP, the path is C:\Documents and Settings\Darold\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates\mytemplate.oft.

QUESTION: What should the path be under Vista b/c of its new folder
structure vs. XP?

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

The location can be whatever what you specify. Most of my Outlook data sits
in the \Documents\Outlook\ folder. When you create the rule, you can select
the oft-file.

Of course, when you roam between machines then you should verify that the
path and file exists on both machines.

Thanks for your quick response.
When I created the Rule in Vista-Outook I selected the location to store the
..oft. Within the rule setup window I do see the various actions I have set
up including the path to the .oft. However, when I click the "Run Now..."
button the line that is supposed to be the path to the custom template is
missing--all other Rule elements are there.

Can you give a hint as to why the action line to "reply
using...mytemplate.oft" does not show? If I execute the Rule every line does
what it is supposed to but for the "reply using..." line.

It probably got removed as the location is not available on that machine and
the rule would cause an error. It's hard to say without knowing more details
about your environment and how you roam your data between the machines.

If it is for an Exchange account, then you can set the rule to have the
server reply with a template. Then you won't run into these kind of issues
and the rule will also be executed even when you have Outlook closed on both
machines.

I am wanting to set up the rule for just one user (the logon user) on his
specific computer. No sharing/roaming needed.

No Exchange involved as the network is perr-to-peer.

Hope this helps narrow the environment down.
