Ruler Bar Measurement

The ruler bar measures in characters and I want to change it to inches. I
went to Tools, Options, Measurement and selected inches but this does not
change the unit of measure. I need inches to correspond with student
workbook. Help.

I knew about it because fellow MVP Graham Mayor wrote about it.
Fortunately, I've never had to deal with this particular annoyance
personally. :)
